Often there’s claim of explainable reason
to justify abject disaster,
it may be of timing or gods or a season
(all concepts this mind cannot master)
Tornadoes and hurricanes blow deadly wind,
fires char acres black with abandon
rumbling earthquakes terrify the thick-skinned,
rising flood water’s unsafe for standing.
Friends will betray – to your back or your face –
possessions may vanish completely
old age or illness will slow down your pace,
and hearts stop at last (end concretely)
The time we enjoy in between all the strife
and the struggle – let’s fill it with giving,
if you’re fortunate (and optimistic!) this life
full of promise and hope is worth living.
