The measure of love
must be gauged against loss
the measure of pain
starts at zero, exempt –
joy is best measured
juxtaposed with sadness
and pride’s measure gleams
cruelly tempered with shame
to measure one’s intellect?
standardized testing –
and wealth, oh, that’s simple,
by money and things
what, then of peace?
all alone, without conflict
the un-warring heart is not
well ascertained
